Chris Morey

Chris Morey is a Special Counsel in HWLE’s Workplace Relations and Safety team. Chris has broad experience in employment and workplace relations matters, having worked in this area both in private law firms, in-house roles, and in an industry association. His work includes all aspects of the employment relationship, advising and representing employers across a wide range of industries on workplace legal issues, including industrial & employment, enterprise bargaining, workplace health & safety, workers compensation and discrimination matters. His practice includes both advice and representing clients in litigious matters.

Before joining HWL Ebsworth, Chris has worked in in-house roles for Flinders University and the University of Adelaide. He also worked for the Motor Trade Association of SA/NT, a registered employer industry association. Prior to these, he spent many years in private practice, acting for both employers and employees in a wide range of industries, across a range of jurisdictions.

  • University of Adelaide Advising on a long-running sexual harassment claim brought by an employee against both the University and another employee.
  • Confidential client Advising on underpayment claims, including remediation, rectification of future pay rates and self-disclosure to the Fair Work Ombudsman.
  • Various clients Conducting investigations into allegations of misconduct by employees.
  • Various clients Managing and responding to requests for information or investigations by regulators or enquiry agencies.
  • Confidential client Providing advice and representation on a prosecution by the regulator related to a workplace accident which unfortunately resulted in a fatality.
